There`s a rumour going round saying that the xbox 720 will be a No Used Game games console, meaning if you don't like a game, well too bad, your now stuck with it for life. It`s criminal, no pre-owned games or borrowing from a friend. If you want a 720 then you will have to be prepared to pay full price for the games and only have a 'Buy New' or not at all option.

How many of you on the site own a pre owned game.... I know I own a few and I have also sold a few, but with the 720 it will some how know when a used game is being used and will block it from use. I believe this rumour could be true because through the transaction of used games the developers get nothing, thus they get less income to make new games or do what they want with it. I hope this is not true but if it is Then I`ll probably be turning to a different platform to game on.

I guess you can call used games Piracy......... The rightful owners get no profit from their goods when you buy it and you can share them with anyone without having to pay again for it. I think its pretty similar but getting rid of used games is just damn right out of order and will also have a big impact on the gaming community.

I don't get why they are doing this... this causes a whole lot problems, for developers, gamers and businesses.

buying/selling used games isn't piracy, you buy a game, you own it, you decide you don't want to own it anymore, you sell it to someone, and they now own it. it's a perfectly legitimate and legal transaction.

If anything, selling it to a shop, so they can sell to someone else, is only more legitimate because it involves tax and receipts, evidence of lawful transactions.

If game developers are getting pissy about us trading used games, then they should stop whining, and get hard at work on amazing, almost faultless games, with pretty much infinite replay value.
It's not our fault their games suck and we want to get rid of them as soon as possible, to minimise our losses.

I'm pretty sure this is just a rumour, Microsoft must know that, that would be a terrible idea, people would buy less games, less consoles, less DLC and other LIVE based money magnets. The whole point of trying to win the platform war, is appealing to more people than the rival platforms, this would put people way off the xbox, and Microsoft know it. People would end up boycotting the console over principle.

I'm pretty sure this is a rumour started by a sony or nintendo fanboy

I agree, but selling a used game gives no profit the to the developers. If this actually happens they probably will lose more customers but with the people who stay will make up for the people gone because they will have to Buy Brand new games, Increasing the costs.... thus increasing the profits. Again I completely agree with what you`r saying and you are probably right. Great post by the way, Its very fascinating.
